The Beg-Eye

20150918_111904“I want that chip… yes, that chip… that Pringle’s chip!”

“Are you talking to me again, dog?”

“Yes.  I need that chip.  If I eat that I will be a people again.”

“But I am eating this chip.  I like Pringle’s.  And I need energy if I am going to finish editing my novel Snow Babies.  Let me finish eating my chips.

“Look at my eyes.  Can’t you see I NEED that chip?  It is the most important thing in life that you give me that chip.”

“No, I will not look at your eyes.  I know about your Beg-Eye super power.  All dogs have it, and little dogs have it in spades.”

“Seriously, just look into my eyes!”

“Oh!  Uh, I shouldn’t have looked into your eyes just now.”

“Smack!  Crunch!  Chew-chew-gobble!  Um, yes, you should have.  Always look at my eyes when you have food in your hands!”

“Well, maybe I need to start writing now.  I am putting the food back in the pantry.”

“Awww!  Shucksies!”

“Look into my eyes!” says Jade the talking dog.  “You want to buy this book when it’s published, don’t you?  Yes, I think you do.”

The Paffooney Process

20150127_102111

What is a Paffooney?  A looney-tuney, full of goony-balloony-cartoony-buffooney?  Well, obviously Paffooney is a word made up by me in the Suessian style, to rhyme and dance and sing for a while…  Um, where was I going with this?  Yeah.  It is a word made up by me with three poetic beats in it, a suggestion of the buffoon, the cartoon, the looney tune, to be used to represent one of my wacky doodles set to words.  I blog with that word in my tags to bring together a certain style of post that defines me as a writer and artist.

Some of my posts and Paffoonies help me to define myself and my mission in life.  Here are a couple of examples of this kind of Paffooney post.

Some of my posts use Paffooney pictures to promote a book I am working on and give insight into the creation of one of my babies, my silly stories, my liar’s tales about everything that is true in life.

Some are simply silly humor posts, meant to make merry mirth and make you laugh a little laugh.

Goofy Me

An Overdose of Cheerios

Still others describe and critique the things I read and see and that have an effect on me.  Of course, critique is probably the wrong term.  I only describe things I can really gush about.  I don’t post about stuff I hate.  Who has time for that?

Thomas Kinkade

The Majestic

And then there’s the kind of post I am doing now, about doodling something and waiting to see where the doodles take me.

Pen and Ink Progress

Classroom Cartoons

Can You Draw Happy?

Today’s Paffooney is a drawing of a dippy chihuahua, a potentially evil cat, and a pear-shaped rat.  Where does this go from here?  I honestly don’t even know.  We must wait and see what the future brings.  (Clearly I am trying to hook the foolish readers (who come to this blog just to see how dippy I can be) so that they will be thoroughly tempted to come back for more another day.  And I have even pulled the trick of referencing other dippy posts that might make you click-sick enough to get totally lost in a Mickian maze of Paffooney Posts.  I am such an evil genius that I even exploit myself sometimes.)

Goofy Me

The more I looked at the silly simpering grin on my old foolish face, the more I realized it needed a few things added.  So I added a few of my dream babies.  You know, those characters I have created in cartoons and novels who may have started with my own three kids, or kids I grew up with, or kids I taught over the years, but ended up with a large injection of my own mental DNA in their final, fictional selves.  So here is a self portrait that I privately refer to by the title “Goofy Me”.

Self Portraixxxt  Man, is that ever goofy!

Google Paffooney Explained

I really don’t know if anyone anywhere has actually tried this, but if you like my art at all I can cure you of that if you follow this procedure;  Go to Google.  Do a picture search on the word “Paffooney”.  Nobody does Paffoonies but me.  You will get a gallery of my art, a few random portraits of women named Valerie Clarke, and aliens.  Most of it will be my stuff.

Post No Ads Here! No, really! This is NOT an Advertisement… this is ART.

googlepaffooney 2I’m trying to self promote without really appearing to self promote. Honestly, they tell me that blogging to promote my books is something you should just do and have fun doing. So that’s what I’m doing. Just to be funny I am making fun of myself for advertising my self. Isn’t that a gas? Isn’t it?

How Did That Happen?

How Did That Happen?

Another celebration is in order. I have been blogging for a year and a half, a little more… And that doesn’t seem like very good progress, but the last 100 have come rather quickly. I think I am picking up momentum. Maybe somebody will get interested in reading my books.

Snow Babies

Snow Babies

Okay, so I didn’t actually win. I was only a finalist in the YA novel contest. But soon I intend to make certain this book gets published. I owe that to these three characters, Valerie Clarke, Denny Cole, and Tommy Bons. I like to say that this book is a comedy about freezing to death… complete with clowns. Honestly, I hope to make you laugh, and make you cry, and maybe stop and think for a moment… “Isn’t that true?”
